A capacity field took to the trails for the second instalment of Run the Blades at Whitelee Windfarm in July. As well as the 50K ultramarathon from last year we added a 10K and a half marathon to make this event as accessible as possible for runners of all abilities and experience.

Cris Walsh, the winner from last year’s 50K was back and he didn’t disappoint, blowing the half marathon field apart with an incredible 1:17:53 over a hilly and challenging course.

The 10K was won by Matthew Leckie in 0:42:17 with the 50K being won by Lee Muir in 3:29:39. Muir’s 50K time was particularly impressive on a slightly amended course that we think is even more challenging than the 2015 route. Cris Walsh has vowed to come back for the 2017 50K which should prove to be an exciting race if Lee Muir decides to defend his title.

Shona Young was first woman home in the 50K and ninth overall in 4:34:35. The 10K was won by Julie Steventon in 0:47:40 with Olivia McBride leading the women home in the half marathon in 1:35:18.

But it wasn’t just about the winners, as impressive as they were. We had people running for 17 different charities raising thousands of pounds, we had first time trail runners, cancer survivors, an almost wedding proposal and an amazing, engaged community of runners. We loved every minute of it and we can’t wait to see you all next year.

How did you do? Running for a time, challenging yourself or beating your best mate? Or did the trail chew you up and spit you out?
