Edinburgh 24 is back! After an eight year absence Edinburgh 24 returns to the capital!

Edinburgh 24 is Breaking Strain's original 24 hour race and we're pretty excited to have it back.   Over a 24, 12 or 6-hour period, runners will complete as many laps of the route around Holyrood Park as physically possible. Spiralling around the rocky summit of Arthur’s Seat, the route offers a varied elevation profile guaranteed to keep all runners on their toes. At the centre of this, is our 24-hour event village, offering encouragement, refreshment and a place to get some much needed rest.

A route through Scottish history

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh, Holyrood Park is a breathtaking landscape of rolling hills, dramatic cliffs, and tranquil lochs. Dominated by the iconic Arthur’s Seat, this ancient volcanic site offers stunning views of Edinburgh, the Forth, Pentland Hills and beyond. On the route you'll see:

  • Arthur’s Seat and the crags are the remains of an ancient volcano. Glaciers carved the terrain into the cliffs and valleys present today.
  • Traces of Bronze Age agricultural terraces can be seen on the eastern slopes of Arthur's Seat when the sun is low
  • Holyrood Abbey which was founded by King David I in 1128.
  • The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence of the King while in Scotland. Our Event Village sits immediately alongside it.
