Training for the Yukon Arctic Ultra took a big step forward this week. A few days ago we completed a 25 mile run along the first part of the West Highland Way carrying approximately 6kg (about a stone) then at the weekend we went down to Gullane beach in East Lothian to do the infamous Murder Hill.

Murder Hill is a torturous 25-30 metres of steeply sloping sand dune. A lot of the Scottish pro football teams train here pre-season doing sprints from bottom to top (historically Jock Wallace brought his Rangers team here). The soft sand is energy sapping and forces runners to push themselves beyond the point where they think they can’t continue; akin to the final minutes of extra time or when you’re defending the try line at the 80th minute.
We thought we’d add a bit of spice to the session by dragging two tyres up the dune in multiple sets of three reps (up and down was one rep). We’re excited to be in early discussions with a major sports brand about extending this challenge and making it even more difficult. Watch this space.
